Welcome to Whānau Mārama Parenting

Tangata ako ana i te whare, te turanga ki te marae, tau ana

(A person, who is taught at home, will stand collected on the Marae)

A child, who is taught proper values at home and cherished within his family, will not only behave well amongst his own family but also within society and throughout his life.

Isn’t it funny how there was wisdom like this found in our past. That when our children are cherished and loved at home they tend to behave not only in their own families but also in the community.

We talk about this concept in our parenting courses. By far the most positive way we help our kids to behave is by loving them, encouraging them, and listening to them. When we do these things we are helping them to behave. That is a very important aspect of discipline 1. just like in this proverb. Because we have disciplined our children in a positive way they will be more positive themselves, they will have more empathy, more confidence and more understanding and will behave well amongst their family and in society.

What a great way to bring up our children.

Mauri Ora.
